The BFI London Film Festival has been bringing out stars like Sandra Bullock, Kate Winslet and Anna Kendrick to the British red carpets, and we have your close-up look. From glowing skin to pretty hair and makeup, you'll want to zoom in on these spotlight-stealing looks.
For the past few weeks, Hollywood stars have flocked to the UK to attend the BFI London Film Festival. For many of them, it was the continuation of the film festival trail to promote their buzzed-about movies, including Sandra Bullock for Gravity, Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac for Inside Llewyn Davis, and Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan for Kill Your Darlings. The event kicked off with the BFI Luminous Gala, which was attended by the likes of Sienna Miller and Damian Lewis, and throughout the festival Kate Winslet made a radiant pregnant appearance, and Gracie Otto debuted the documentary she directed, The Last Impresario. It wrapped with the closing night gala and premiere of Saving Mr. Banks on Sunday night. For all the BFI Film Festival action, click through.
You know your kid is proud of you when they wear a t-shirt bearing your image. That’s what happened to Michelle Williams this week, when she went for a stroll in NYC with her 7-year-old daughter Matilda, whose outfit reflected her love of Michelle’s character in Oz: The Great and Powerful, Glinda the Good. (Ben Affleck’s children have also worn their love for him on their shirts before.) In another sweet parent-child moment, Orlando Bloom took time out from his Broadway revival of Romeo and Juliet to walk around Manhattan with his toddler son Flynn. Kate Winslet will soon be a mother for the third time, and she took her growing baby bump to the London Film Festival to premiere Labor Day. In Sydney, TV personalities Jennifer Hawkins and Kerri-Anne Kennerley partied together after Foxtel’s upfront, where the subscription TV service announced its plans for the coming year.
This gallery also features an adorable family outing with Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady, Kim Kardashian’s post-baby curves, and Charlie Hunnam’s return to the Sons of Anarchy set — click through to get up to speed with the best pictures of the week.
The dress's delicate drapery beautifully showed off her growing baby bump. But this isn't the first show-stopping look Kate has debuted while on her promotional tour for Labor Day. From sleekly tailored day looks to more than one custom gown from the designer who might just be the favourite of British actresses and royals alike, we're taking a look at her exemplary style here, in the gallery.
Kate Winslet put her growing baby bump on display in a tight black top when she attended a photo call — and later a premiere — for her latest project, Labor Day, in London. The actress was joined at both events by her co-star Josh Brolin, who showed Kate a lot of love by kissing her hand, cuddling up to her, and sharing laughs in front of the cameras. This isn't the first time Kate has hit the red carpet while pregnant — she also attended the Toronto International Film Festival in September, where she dressed up in a maternity-friendly Jenny Packham gown, the same designer she wore to Monday night's premiere.
Kate has shown no signs of slowing down while she's expecting, and landed on the cover of US Vogue's November issue. She'll also have a lot more press promotions to attend to while she prepares for the release of Labor Day, which is out in Australia on Feb. 6.
Happy birthday, Kate Winslet! We love the Oscar-winning actress, who turned 38 on Oct 5, because she's never been shy about criticising Hollywood's lust for body perfection. She even successfully won a libel case in 2009 regarding it, when she sued the Daily Mail for claiming that she was lying about her exercise regimen. Here are seven ways Kate Winslet inspires with her healthy outlook.
- She accepts her body: "Nobody is perfect. I just don't believe in perfection. But I do believe in saying, 'This is who I am and look at me not being perfect!' I'm proud of that," she said in the Sydney Morning Herald in 2008.
- She wants to be a role model for her daughter: Kate recently told a German magazine, "I accept my body. I accept how I am and make the best of what I am given. Children orientate towards examples. That's why I talk solely positive about my body in front of my daughter."
- She's an advocate for healthy body image: When asked by Italian Vanity Fair if she was tired about talking about her weight, Kate replied: "I believe it is important to go on insisting that normality is not what we are exposed to. Honestly, among my acquaintances there is no woman wearing XS. No, sorry, there is one: my daughter. The point is that Mia is 11 years old."
- She fits in exercise: "I don't go to the gym because I don't have time but I do Pilates workout DVDs for 20 minutes or more every day at home," she's said in Elle UK.
- She eats sensibly: "I still don't believe this craziness for being skinny, but I eat sensibly and I don't stuff down chocolate biscuits," Kate also told Elle UK.
- She's against plastic surgery: "I don't have parts of my body that I hate or would like to trade for somebody else's or wish I could surgically adjust into some fantasy version of what they are," she told Glamour last year.
- She doesn't stress about pregnancy weight: Kate says she's been eating healthfully during her current pregnancy, but isn't going to join the throngs of celeb mums who race to lose the baby weight. "I don't know how much I can be bothered to have to lose the weight. It's such a pain . . . I'm not one of those people for whom it magically drops off," she says.
While London played host to Spring 2014 London Fashion Week, the Toronto International Film Festival wrapped up over the weekend. Stars like Jennifer Aniston, Olivia Wilde, Sandra Bullock, and Julia Roberts have all made appearances on the Canadian red carpet. And there were a bevy of styles making appearances, whether it was at a press conference or on the red carpet. Need a LFW break? Then it's time to check out all the stars out and about in Toronto for one final hurrah!

Kate Winslet put her growing baby bump on display in a bespoke Jenny Packham gown at the premiere of Labor Day at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday. She linked up with director Jason Reitman and her costars, Josh Brolin and James Van Der Beek, on the red carpet after being on hand for the film's press conference earlier in the day. Kate touched down in Toronto this week alongside husband Ned Rocknroll. The couple jetted out of Heathrow Airport together on Thursday and Kate, who announced her pregnancy a few months ago, was all smiles while resting her hand on her belly.
In sharp contrast to her real life, Kate stars in Labor Day as a depressed single mum who falls in love with a fugitive accused of murder, played by Josh Brolin. The drama also stars Tobey Maguire.
The trailer for the adaptation of futuristic young adult novel Divergent is here! Shailene Woodley stars as Tris, a teenage girl who has to choose a "faction" in a dystopian US, but she discovers that she's actually classified as divergent, meaning she doesn't fit into any faction — and can't be controlled, which makes her a danger in the eyes of the controlling faction Erudite, the leader of which is played by Kate Winslet. To stay undetected, Tris picks the Dauntless faction, and the trailer gives us a look at the death-defying acts that she and her fellow initiates endure, like jumping off trains and other stunts from the book, like Tris' and Four's (Theo James) Ferris wheel climb.
Whether you've read the book or not, the trailer looks pretty incredible — and so does Tris' tough love interest, Four, whom we see her share a hot kiss with. I'm also excited to see that Winslet's role has been expanded for the movie — it's just one of the things I'm looking forward to in this adaptation. Divergent comes out March next year, but you can watch the trailer now after the jump.
Today's actors have only made it to space on screen, but some stars could actually travel out of this world as early as this year. Justin Bieber is the latest star to book a seat on a Virgin Galactic suborbital flight, joining a string of A-listers set to board the company's spaceships. As the first commercial spaceline, Virgin Galactic plans to operate several flights aboard spaceships that carry six passengers and two pilots. A seat will cost you more than $200,000. After passengers spend a few days preparing with their crew, they'll bast off from a spaceport in New Mexico for a short flight that includes several minutes of weightlessness.
As of now, the company is still testing, but Virgin Group owner Sir Richard Branson hopes to launch the first full space flight by the end of the year, making space tourism a probable reality. Besides Bieber, see which stars are planning trips.
